Location: Fully On-Site - Reno, NV

Salary: $140,000-$160,000 (Exempt)

Schedule: Monday-Friday (Work hours aligned to jobsite operations; flexibility required based on business needs)


Job Summary

The Safety Manager is responsible for cultivating a strong safety culture and ensuring full regulatory compliance across operations. This role provides strategic and hands-on leadership for safety programs, policies, and personnel, while serving as the primary safety advisor to employees, management, customers, and regulatory agencies.

The Safety Manager leads safety professionals and support staff, oversees program development and auditing, advises leadership on injury and illness prevention, and ensures consistent, effective safety communication across the organization.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and coach management and safety staff to promote a proactive, prevention-focused safety culture
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing safety professionals; ensure quality control and professional development
  • Manage schedules, workflows, and workload delegation to provide consistent oversight of field operations
  • Perform jobsite hazard analyses and proactive safety walks with supervision and sales teams
  • Manage internal and external safety inspections and audits; ensure accurate and complete safety records
  • Serve as the technical safety advisor for OSHA, labor laws, and applicable industry standards
  • Provide incident response support and technical guidance during safety events
  • Lead incident investigations, trend analysis, and development of corrective and preventive actions
  • Develop, communicate, and enforce site-specific safety plans in alignment with customer requirements
  • Identify hazards and implement strategies to control exposure and correct unsafe conditions
  • Build strong relationships with field leadership, clients, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies
  • Coach field, shop, and office teams on safe work practices and compliance expectations
  • Facilitate safety communication through tailgates, stand-downs, and regular safety updates
  • Schedule, deliver, and track safety training programs to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and represent the company on environmental matters
  • Develop and maintain evacuation plans and conduct emergency preparedness drills
  • Coordinate injury response, medical care, and return-to-work efforts with Risk Management
  • Lead or support work stoppages ("pause work") to address immediate safety concerns
  • Participate in sales and client meetings to present safety metrics, initiatives, and technical expertise
  • Support selection and implementation of safety equipment, PPE, and signage
  • Maintain professional knowledge through ongoing education and industry engagement
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support business objectives

Position Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction, maintenance, safety, or operations
  • Minimum 5 years of safety management experience
  • Experience in mechanical contracting or commercial/industrial construction strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent experience
  • CHST or CSP certification required (SMP preferred)
  • Extensive knowledge of safety and environmental principles and EHS regulations (federal, state, local)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify safety exposures and implement corrective actions
  • Highly organized with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Apple applications, and collaboration tools
  • Valid driver's license meeting company requirements
